Guidance of Mawlānā Shaykh Mehmet

Short, practical counsels of Mawlānā Shaykh Mehmet ʿĀdil al-Ḥaqqānī قَدَّسَ اللهُ سِرَّهُ — enough for a lifetime if acted upon.

Guidance 1

Don't be Angry

Allāh ﷻ loves those who forgive.

وَٱلْكَاظِمِينَ ٱلْغَيْظَ وَٱلْعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Wal-kāẓimīna l-ghayẓa wal-ʿāfīna ʿani n-nās, wa-Llāhu yuḥibbu l-muḥsinīn (3:134)

  • Mawlānā reminds us that Allāh ﷻ is not pleased with anger, and that reconciling with someone you are estranged from is itself a beautiful act of worship with an immense reward.
  • Ramaḍān in particular is the season for mending broken ties.
  • Islām teaches that staying angry with another beyond three days is not good — and if the other person insists on their anger, leave it with them rather than carrying your own.
  • Keep the door open: answer the salām when it is given, and welcome the one who comes back.

Guidance 2

Tolerate each other

Bearing with one another raises a person's station.

لَا يَرْضَى ٱلْعِبَادَ إِلَّا رَبُّ ٱلْعِبَادِ

Lā yarḍá l-ʿibād illā Rabbu l-ʿibād

  • The Holy Prophet ﷺ gave abundant counsel on how people should live together well, and patience with one another lifts a believer's rank.
  • Every person has faults and every person errs, so forgiveness between people must be mutual — though Mawlānā acknowledges plainly that this is not easy.
  • No matter what you do, you cannot satisfy everyone; only Allāh ﷻ gives contentment to His servants.

Guidance 3

The Right Way

Love of the Prophet ﷺ is safety.

  • The safe road is the way of the Prophet ﷺ — following it protects a person from every harm.
  • Loving him ﷺ, accepting him ﷺ and holding to what he ﷺ taught is what keeps a believer secure.
  • Mawlānā warns against those who use accusations of bidʿah to drive people away from good and away from the way of Allāh ﷻ.
  • May Allāh ﷻ keep us safe and give us strength against shayṭān and his followers, in shāʾa Llāh.

Guidance 4

Charity

Give — even if it is only a date or a piece of candy.

  • The Prophet ﷺ instructed us to give, and never to let someone leave our door empty-handed, however small the gift.
  • Generosity is among the noble characteristics of the Prophet ﷺ, while stinginess, as he ﷺ said, is kneaded into the nafs.
  • The cure for that stinginess is simply to give, repeatedly and in small things.
  • Charity lengthens life, is a means of shifāʾ (healing), and wards off calamity — there is great wisdom in it.

Guidance 5

Health

Fast, and you will be healthy.

صُومُوا تَصِحُّوا

Ṣūmū taṣiḥḥū

  • The Prophet ﷺ said, “Fast and you will be healthy” — wellness follows fasting.
  • However carefully a person guards their health by other means, Mawlānā says they will not attain it without fasting.
  • Those who fast feel better than others; the body is renewed, released from what is in excess, and lightened.
